Scope of Economics(Hons)


Economics(Hons) is the most favourite course in Delhi University. DU offers it with a degree name as B.A. or Bachelor of Arts, while some other universities offer it with a degree name as B.Sc. or Bachelor of Science. It offers highest placement rate in DU. Even talking about highest packages, that too are grabbed by Econ graduates.

Who should choose Eco(Hons)?


All students who have interest in economics can choose this course. But knowledge of economics is not enough to go for this course, so it is advisable that only students with strong foundation in maths and stats should choose this course. This course can be chosen by students of all streams i.e. science, commerce and arts.

Admission Procedure

In DU, admission is based on best of four percentange in class 12th. For best of four percentage, English is must and you can choose best three out of remaining four subjects. Some colleges demand more than 90 marks in maths as a eligibility condition. Favourite colleges in DU are St. Stephens, SRCC, Hansraj, Hindu and Kirorimal.

Course Content

Eco (Hons) will provide you with insights of economics through its contents. Subjects that are taught include mathematical methods in economics, statistical methods in economics, micro economics, macro economics, international economics, econometrics, indian economic history and etc.

Placements

It sounds strange that you can get a placement after just a graduation degree, but it's true for Econ graduates. Big companies like EY, KPMG, PWC, Deloitte, Bain, etc come for placements in DU. Favourite colleges for placements are St. Stephens, SRCC, Hansraj, Hindu and Kirorimal.

Government Jobs

After graduation students can appear for UPSC, SSC and Bank exams. UPSC will provide you with prestigious posts like IAS, IPS, IRS and etc. With SSC you can go for posts like income tax inspector, Excise Inspector and etc. With bank exam you can be recruited as probationary officer and bank clerk. If you have done MA (Eco), you can also appear for IES (Indian Economic Services) exam.

Higher Studies

Most of the students go for MBA after Eco (Hons). For MBA students have to get good percentile in CAT exam. Favourite colleges for MBA are FMS, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta and etc. Students easily get placements after MBA in profiles like finance, marketing, analytics, risk advisory and etc. After MBA students can go for PHD and clear UGC NET exam to become a college professor.

Many students go for MA (Economics). Favourite colleges are ISI, DSE, JNU, IGIDR and etc. Placements are easily available for MA students. Some students go for M.Phil and PHD, they have to clear UGC NET exam to become a college professor.
Some students have teaching as an ambition, they can go for B.Ed. B.Ed with graduation makes you a TGT school teacher. B.Ed with MA makes you a PGT school teacher.
